About The Witches' Market

The Mercado de Las Brujas, otherwise known as the Witches' Market, is a common tourist attraction found next to the Church of St. Francis. It is an interesting place to walk around, grab a bite to eat or to do some shopping. La Paz is famous for this lively tourist area, in spite of its name, the Witches' Market is nothing to be afraid of and worth a visit. 
The street is filled with colorful tourist shops where vendors line the streets to sell a number of strange and fascinating products.  A few wise market stall sellers in dark hats and dresses will be ready to read your palms. This is the best place in La Paz to buy local souvenirs, silver accessories, alpaca sweaters, handbags, etc. The witches' area also has lots of herbs, charms, interesting things, and special ambiance. The dried baby llamas are considered very auspicious which makes the place special as well. The area offers not only the traditional magic items but good quality wool works made of alpaca. The price is quite cheap and the choices are abundant.

Rental car/ taxi will take about 15 minute which is about 3.1 km.

  • Bargain with the sellers.
  • Due to the crowded area, it is best to look after your belongings.
  • There is a lower number of food stalls or restaurants on these streets.
  • The market has varieties of medicine/drugs that can help you with any problem you might have.
  • Be thoughtful while taking pictures of the locals, some people might not like it. Always ask for their permission first.
  • To avoid dehydration bring your water bottles.
  • Wear comfortable shoes.
