About Dryanovo Monastery

Unlike other monasteries, the Dryanovo Monastery is still a working Bulgarian Orthodox monastery just outside of Dryanovo. It was built in the 12th century and dedicated to Archangel Michael. Though the original was destroyed during Ottoman rule the monastery has been reconstructed to its present state.
The monastery is not just a residence and workplace for monks, it also houses a museum with an “Archaeology and Revival” exhibition. Because the monastery was built on the battle site of the April Uprising, there are many artifacts, weapons, and rebel clothing in the museum. Discover the history of the region going back to the Early Stone Age. Dryanovo Monastery also has a church, ossuary, and a mausoleum. The bones of the rebels are kept there.
This monastery is a peaceful place with a resting corner and a children’s playground. Come to worship, or just come for a visit.
