About Independence Monument, Phnom Penh

At the intersection of the Norodom Boulevard and the Sihanouk Boulevard, the Independence monument is right at the heart of the city centre. The structure has a deep significance in the cultural existence and the quest for independence of Cambodia. The construction occurred in the year of 1958, 5 years from the time Cambodia came out of the shadow of the French rule.

The structure reflects the serenity of the stupa that appears impeccably made on the lotus-like resemblance. It is often the point of all the attractions and celebrations across the Independence Day celebrations. The royal torch lit for the pride and progress of the country finds its way through the official channels to ignite the beauty of the Independence monument.

The highlight of the entire aura that moves around this monument is its location too. The idea of making the progressive spread of the capital Phnom Penh around the monument at the city centre is to give everyone a regular reminder of the purpose and the struggles behind what the population today enjoys as freedom and decision-making rights. A large number of tourist influx into Cambodia would compulsorily visit the Independence Monument and offer the floral tributes.

The whole work of the structure, despite its robust make, appears to be the hallmark of elegance and humility. The striking resemblance of the place with the Angkor Wat Temple often sends tourists into a nostalgic rewind. Cambodia, with the values of keeping nature and progress together in its stride, takes a lot of pride in the Independence monument and the value it stands for.
