About Lemuy Island

Lemuy Island is an island located off the main island of Chiloe in Chiloe Archipelgo, Chile with an amazing view and a peaceful environment. Lemuy Island is surrounded by about nine villages including Pulquedon, Ichuan, Aldachido, Chulchy, Lincay, Detif, Lincura, San Agustin and Pulchico. The inhabitants of the island are very religious.
Some of these villages were home to famous churches built in the 17th and 18th centuries, now recognized as UNESCO World Heritage sites after surviving earthquakes and a lot of natural disasters. These are the survivors out of the 70 churches built around that time.

The churches were built with stunning wooden architecture and are very unique buildings. The island is accommodating and the people are very welcoming. They also have a wide range of delicious meals in the restaurants that visitors would love to try and enjoy. The Chiloe National Park has foxes, sea lions and otters and provides a very good environment terrain for horseback riding, sea kayaking and fishing. Some of the famous churches are the reason most visitors come here all-year-round.

Visitors can go around Lincay and have a tour around a wooden church dating back to the 20th century and also Liucura which has a wooden church built in the 19th century on the South coast. The East coast has the Detif and Puchilco Church also built with wood in the 19th century and has paintings by the Peruvian artist Miguel GamarraiIn, right in the middle of the island. This World Heritage Site also has amazing hotels that are accomodating and brings a lot of comforts.
