About Centro Cultural Palacio de La Moneda

Built between the years 2004 and 2006, Centro Cultural Palacio de La Moneda is located in the southern front of Palacio de La Moneda, the office of the President of Chile. Centro Cultural Palacio de La Moneda is designed by an architect from Chile, named  Cristián Undurraga. The building spans over 7,200 square meters along with two exhibition halls of 620 square meters. La Moneda Cultural Centre was the part of the Bicentennial Project, which was to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Chile’s Republican Life. Apart from this building, there were many public buildings, libraries, parks, boulevards, and airports that have been remodelled and improved. The cultural centre was built up to boost up the local art form as well as Chile’s contribution to universal culture.

The cultural centre is actually built beneath the terrace of La Moneda on the southern side, as mentioned above. The entrance is 6.5 meters below the ground and it is freely open to the visitors worldwide. The central hall is encompassed by the exhibition rooms and there is a glass roof that floods with natural light and wind. The uppermost level of the building comes with a gallery hall, crafts shops, restaurants, and cafes. Apart from these, there are a Centro de Documentación de las Artes or Arts Documentation Centre, National Film Archive, a Digital Library, and a new Art and Technology Exhibition Room. The Centro Cultural Palacio de La Moneda also comprises a parking garage that can house 564 cars in total on four levels.
