About Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombino

The museum is situated at the center of the city and surmounts to a collection of various art and artifacts prevalent during the Pre-Columbian era. It also encompasses the art forms of Chile and South and Central America. The museum initiated a collection of 5000 art and artifacts. These mementos are made from varied materials metals, ceramics, textiles, bone, and leather. The museum advocates the work of artists who were Spanish in origin who were indigenous before the arrival of Europeans. It accommodates an impressive collection of artworks from Central and South America reflecting the rich culture and the grandeur of the Pre-Columbian Americans. The museum represents 100 different groups of people with cultural diversity. The aesthetic quality of objects is truly remarkable for its workmanship and depicts the original collection which is bifurcated into four areas.

How to reach

Walk 600meter till you reach PA 558 Esperanza/Esq Alameda or PA 547-Parada 3/ (M) Quinta Normal bus stop. It will take 19 minutes to reach at Vincente Valdes from Quinta Normal stop. You can avail the L5 bus. Then go down to the stoppage named Plaza- De Armas. From there you need to walk for 200 meters to arrive at Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombino. It may cost 3000 CLP by bus each way.

  • Do not miss the English descriptions which provide a good insight into the lives of different groups of people that lived through South America.
  • The museum is disabled friendly to a point with a lift as well.
  • DO not miss the excellent shop on the ground floor with a great collection of books and music of the Mapuche and the other indigenous people
  • Wear comfortable shoes as you will need to be on your feet for a long time.
  • Photography is allowed without a flash.
  • Refrain from damaging or scratching any of the displays.
  • Maintain discipline inside the premises.
  • Talk softly as it may disturb other visitors. 
  • Take responsibility for your belongings.
  • Do not smoke or consume alcohol inside the museum.
