About Playa Caleta Portales

Playa Caleta Portales is a prominent beach and fisherman's cove in Chile and attracts a huge crowd of visitors each year. Caleta Portales is known for its sandy, pet-friendly beach that overlooks amazing sunsets each day. Being so close to the Valparaiso port, this beach also gives an amazing view of the port and stunning city lights during the evening. The fish market is home to fresh plates of seafood like fishes, mussels, ceviche, and other seafood items that are sold for cheap.

The beach, however, is not fit for swimming due to strong currents, but it does make for a great destination for a weekend beach vacation. If you are a beach lover, you will love spending time at the beach, surrounded by natural sea life, and looking at activities of the port - boats moving, harbouring of ships. The pier present lodges numerous pelicans, seagulls, and sea lions that can be seen all day long, resting on the podium. If you ever visit Vina del Mar or surrounding areas, do not miss visiting this beach in Valparaiso. Reach a little early to experience mesmerizing sunset at the sea horizon.

Playa Caleta Portales is easily accessible by various means of public transport, being so close to the Valparaiso subway. It was inaugurated on 19th January 1929 and now is a prominent tourist destination with extensive sea line and notable restaurants that serve various local cuisines. The inauguration of Caleta Portales was done with a motive to move ancient fishermen from Quebrada de Jaime and the establishment of the artisanal fishing community in Valparaiso.
