Mode & Cost of Transports

  • Buses - The two aircontioned buses 99 and 98 charge 2rmb while all other buses charge only 1.2rmb per ride. 
  • Taxi - Starting fee for the first 2 kms during the day is 9rmb and jumps to 11rmb at night. 
  • Bicycle - Charges are either by the hour or for an entire day, ranging between 10rmb and 30rmb.
  • Car - Rentals start at 600rmb for an 8-hour booking.

Do’s:

  • Carry an umbrella if you’ll be visiting during the months of April, May, June and July.
  • The best time to take a cruise of the Li River is during November and the dry winter months as water level drops and the reflection in the water is clearly visible.
  • Present gifts with both hands. 
  • Tour with a local expert to know everything about the city and its local haunts.
  • Acknowledge people in the local language.

Don’ts:

  • Avoid embracing or kissing when greeting or saying good-bye as it is not part of the norm there.  
  • Avoid visiting Guilin during winter months as it becomes very foggy and cold. 
  • Avoid narrow winding roads and stick to the highway.
  • Don’t stick your chopsticks upright in the rice bowl as it is a bad omen.
  • Make sure the spout of the teapot is not facing anyone.

Places like the Baidu Bar on the banks of the Li River is a three-storey bar/nightclub that welcomes all music-lovers.
