About Shanghai World Financial Center

Shanghai World Financial Center is a supertall skyscraper located in the Pudong district of Shanghai, and is the ninth tallest skyscraper in the world and fourth tallest in China. It was designed and developed by Kohn Pedersen Fox from Mori Building company and by the structural engineer Leslie. E. Roberston. The building consists of hotels, offices, conference rooms, observation decks, and shopping malls. Modern Shanghai is completely packed within this attraction, which you should not miss visiting.

The architecture of the building looks very impressive. The building is shaped like a bottle opener. When you explore the building, you'll feel as if you are walking on air, especially on the 97th and 100th floor, where you'll get an amazing cityscape view. There is no best time to visit the place as the skyline looks amazing throughout the day, but when you look through the glass panel during the evening, the lighting of the city makes it more stunning and breathtaking.

How to reach

Taxi: The attraction is located 4.4 km from the city and can be reached within 10 minutes.

Bus: 791, 870, 961  and get off at Dongtailu Station to reach the destination.

Tips

  • Do not visit on a rainy or cloudy day as you won't be able to see anything.
  • Hire a guide.
  • Use google map for correct directions of the city.
  • Go to B1 and B2 to find a food court with a large choice of food for very cheap prices. It is a bit crowded from 11:30 AM to around 1 PM. If you don't speak Chinese you can take a picture of the food and show it to the cashier to order.
  • Don't go up on a cloudy day and avoid rush hour times because the building gets very crowded.
  • You get a coupon book with discounts for the shops and restaurants in the SWFC, so don't eat until after the observatory so you can use them. They even have a free dessert coupon for Din Tan Fung
  • Avoid the mandatory picture taking as you wait in line.
  • Make sure you go during the weekdays to avoid the rush.
  • Arrive early so you get enough time to explore.
  • Wear comfortable shoes and clothes.
  • Stay till evening to enjoy the lights of Shanghai city.
