About Goethe Institute

The Goethe Institute is the worldwide cultural institute of the Federal Republic of Germany and is also present in Kinshasa. It is named after the famous German poet and statesman Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe. It is an autonomous and politically-independent body. It imparts knowledge of the German language and arts to cultivate international cultural cooperation. It presently has two areas, the visual arts with the fields of sculpture, ceramics, painting, and metal, and the graphic arts with the fields of interior architecture and visual communication. The institute was founded in 1943 by the Belgian missionary Marc Wallenda and has been in existence since 1949.  Kinshasa has become one of the most interesting art cities of the African continent due to its growing talent of artists and musicians.
