About Pool Malebo

The Pool Malebo, formerly Stanley Pool, also known as Lake Nkunda by local indigenous people in pre-colonial times, is a lake-like widening in the lower reaches of the Congo River. It covers an area of 70 square miles with a depth of 52 feet. There are lots of palm and papyrus swamps along the edges of the river and pool. The area has around 200 species of fish.
