About Catedral Primada de América

The Cathedral of Santo Domingo is popularly called the Cathedral of America. Pope Paul III declared the cathedral as The First Cathedral of the World. The exteriors are made of Renaissance ornaments which are dated between 1514 and 1546, You can see the Gothic style of construction. The Cathedral has three main doors. All of them are in gothic style as well. One of the doors is the North Door, this opens up into Colon Park. The South Door is called Door of Forgiveness, because it is believed that whoever passes through this door is given forgiveness. Previously politicians crossed it, as that meant that they were automatically forgiven when they were persecuted. One can find great artworks dated back to 1523, like the Table of the Virgin of Altagracia, as you enter the church. This is definitely a unique experience that history-buffs shall love!
