About Egyptian Museum

The Egyptian Museum, also known as the Museum of Cairo was founded in 1857 by the renowned French Egyptologist, Auguste Mariette. Moved to the current location in Downtown Cairo - in 1897. There are two main floors in the museum, the ground floor, and on the first floor. There are more than ‎120,000 antique artifacts in the museum - some in the storerooms and some are on a grand display. It is rightly thus called the Museum of Antiquities.

The place is closest to the Sadat section.

Tips

  • Do not carry pocket knives, picnic utensils and sometimes also nail clippers.
  • Students must carry an international student card to get the discount.
  • Do not take cameras inside.
  • Be on your guard all the time.
  • Visit the museum after rush hours.
