About Lamanai Archaeological Reserve

The Lamanai Mayan Site is a favorite destination of every Mayan Culture lover and is the most visited archaeological site in Belize. The beautiful stone architecture surrounded by foliage by the banks of the Orange river paints a beautiful picture of the yesteryear during the Mayan civilization. The tour will take you through the waters of the Orange River where you can spot numerous birds and other wildlife. At the site, you can explore beautiful ancient ruins, climb atop the highest summit and enjoy the panoramic view.

How to reach

Take the guided river tour from Belize or take a water taxi. Tickets for water taxis are available near the Maritime Museum.

Tips

  • Take the guided river trip via the Orange River. It is very scenic and relaxing,
  • Do carry sunglasses, sunscreen, hats, and sturdy shoes. The weather is mostly hot and sunny and some walking is required.
  • Carry your own water and food as the place does not have any eateries nearby.
  • One can get a very close look at ancient artifacts and skeletons.
  • One should carry soles or buy them to walk over the rocky surface.
  • Need to know how to swim to reach the caves.
  • The walk through the jungle and the inside of the caves both are phenomenal
