About Swaminarayan Akshardham temple

The third largest Hindu Temple in the world, Akshardham stands tall in the city of Delhi near the Yamuna River. Swaminarayan Akshardham is a Hindu temple and a spiritual-cultural campus. The complex showcases the traditional spiritual and architectural complexities of both Hindu and Indian culture. Very close to it lies the Commonwealth Village which was built when India hosted the Commonwealth Games. The temple is an amazing architectural masterpiece and looks utterly beautiful both during the day and at night. The exterior and interior of this temple are very attractive and spellbinding. The Akshardham temple offers a tour on a boat which takes you along a beautiful passage inside the temple. Musical fountains are also found inside. A short movie can also be seen inside the temple which is related to the Temple itself. The temple will give you a rich experience which you will cherish forever.

How to reach

Walk from Akshardham (station) to Akshardham temple  at a distance of 693 meters takes about 8 minutes
Taxi from Akshardham (station) to Akshardham temple  takes around  5 minutes. The  one way fare varies  from ₹ 130 to ₹ 170. The distance to cover by road is 4.7 km

Taxi from Delhi Airport (DEL) to Akshardham temple takes  27 minutes. One way fare varies from  ₹ 650 to ₹ 850 to cover a distance of 26.5 km

Metro from Indira Gandhi International Airport to Akshardham temple takes around one hour and costs from ₹ 30 to ₹ 70. The break up of the travel by metro is as follows:
16 min by Subway,  available every 15 minutes. Take Orange Line (Airport Express) the ticket ranges from ₹ 17 to ₹ 55 to reach Shivaji Stadium. From there Walk for 10 min, approximately 886 meters to reach Rajiv Chowk. From here, it takes 18 minutes by Subway, available every 15 minutes (Blue Line) and costs around ₹ 13 to  ₹ 16 to reach Akshardham metro station. From here Walk for 8 minutes covering approximately 693 meters to reach the temple.

Tips

  • Baggage is not allowed inside the temple complex, but it has a very secure (and free) place to store all belongings
  • You will have to deposit your camera, phone, and other electronics in storage because they are not allowed inside
  • Leave your shoes outside before entering the temple
  • Take a boat tour for a guided history of the temple
  • Must watch the laser light show in the evening
  • Dining is available (Satvik food). Do enjoy the food here
  • Pure, fresh vegetarian food and snacks are available at Premvati Food Court
  • Rest rooms are available throughout the campus
  • ATM's are available at the Visitors’ Center
