About Howrah Bridge

Enchanting and strong! The bridge is built on river Hoogly and is the famous symbol of Kolkata. It was built during the British empire and is the oldest and the longest bridge of India. It is a marvel of engineering standing on two pillars, built without nuts and bolts and carries traffic of about 1,50,000 vehicles and 200,000 to 300,000 pedestrians daily. How to reach

Travel to the bridge by bus, taxi or rental car. 

The basic taxi fare is Rs. 30 up to the first 2 km and after that the fare increases by Rs. 3 for every additional  0.2 km. Taxis are available at a regular frequency with 0 to 5 minutes wait time. 

It is 5 minutes walk from the nearest railway station named Howrah bridge.

  • Enjoy the boat ride in the evening.
  • It is very crowded so take care of your belongings.
  • To have a great view of the bridge, watch it from the middle of the river in a boat ride.
  • Visit the bridge during the festive season, it is decorated with lights.
