About Basilica Of Our Lady Of Peace

"Talk about an impressive gift! The Basilica of Our Lady Peace was a gift from Félix Houphouët-Boigny to Pope John Paul II on behalf of the Catholic Church. The Basilica of Our Lady Peace began construction in Yamoussoukro in 1985, and on September 10, 1990 it was consecrated by Pope John Paul II. The designs were inspired by the Basilica of Saint Peter in Vatican City.

The Guiness Book of World Records has the Basilica of Our Lady Peace listed as the largest church in the world. Although the largest church, it can only accommodate 18,000 worshippers compared to the 60,000 at Saint Peter’s. The Basilica of Our Lady Peace is most famous for its cost. Although no exact number has ever been released, the cost of the church is estimated at $300,000,000. Come join the faithful on a Sunday to see a service in the largest church in the world.
