If you are looking for something to do on a rainy day in Riga then you can't go wrong with this jewel of a museum. It is housed in a spectacular building with an expansive permanent assortment of Latvian art chronicling the country's turbulent history. There are five levels of galleries to explore, representing different historical periods. There is a grand entrance hall with a central stairway leading up to the galleried floors. The fourth floor has a glass floor. The Soviet era utilitarian art is an interesting find. On show is a great variety of art, displayed chronologically. Just being in the building is a joy in itself. Really worth a visit.
It is 3.2 km away from the Riga City Center.
