About Vilniaus Sv. Apastalu Petro ir Povilo Parapija

At the site of where the church is now built, it was said that a wooden church once stood there, which was destroyed during many wars with Moscow. The present church was built by Hetman Mykolas Kazimieras Pacas in 1676. It was only later that the beautiful stuccos and frescoes that adorn it today were added and at the beginning of the 19th century, its Rococo pulpit was added. The church contains over 2,000 stucco mouldings that represent various religious scenes and mythological legends. Apart from this, the church also contains a magnificent 20th-century altar that houses a wooden figure of Christ brought from Rome in 1700 that has real human hair on it.
