About Coba Ruins

You’ll find a number of interesting Mayan sites in Mexico but none as intriguing as the Coba Ruins. Not as excavated as the other sites, Coba makes you feel as if you are trekking through the wilderness, finding your way through ancient jungles to find the ruins. This experience is truly enchanting.

The Coba ruins are located in the Playa Del Carmen area. They are also distinct in the way that they are the only climbable ruins in the vicinity, besides being the tallest. So get ready for some serious climbing! Though you can enjoy the ruins without the climb as well, only not as much. Do be sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes for the best experience and always be very careful while climbing! Since the site is a little out of the way, it does not see as many tourists as the other archeological sites, which makes it perfect for exploration. It is a treasure for history buffs and curious minds. The insights the Coba ruins provide into the cultural history of the Mayans are extensive and detailed. Since the excavations are still going on, the site becomes all the more interesting with archeologists finding new information every day. A word of caution though – do not forget to bring a bottle of water and some snacks along for the trip. Whether you are traveling on your own or have booked a tour, most of the site requires climbing, hiking, and, if you like adventure, sports of some sort or the other. You will get hungry and a little snack never hurts anyone!

With a plethora of activities and the entire site to explore, Coba Ruins will complete your visit to Mexico. Do not miss it!
