About Oudaias Kasbah

Kasbah des Oudaias flaunts its unique features that demarcate this city form the rest of Rabat towns. Oudaias Kasbah is a kasbah, a type of citadel, or walled town, positioned in the Rabat town in Morocco. Situated on the mouth of the river  Bou Regreg it was originally named as Qasbat al-Awdāya meaning “The River Valley” Enlisted under the World UNESCO Heritage Sites, it represents a narrow neighborhood painted with the fascinating hues of blue and white and is located opposite to the old medina of Rabat.

The Kasbah Mosque with its shoe-shaped gate called Bab Oudaia curated with the intricate work of Almohad and Moroccan architecture is a world-renowned attraction in the  Kasbah des Oudaias. This forms the part of the oldest quarter built under the rule of the Almohad dynasty.

This part of city is quiet and there are relatively few people walking around the maze of streets. This makes exploring the northern parts of the city a lot more fun.  It is thus well suited to walk and explore its various nooks and corners with exotic street local food available at surprisingly low costs. The narrow streets are clustered with houses that were built by the Moroccan Muslim refugees from the 16th century and are all whitewashed to fit in the same frame. The breathtaking fragrant-smelling Andalusian Gardens built during the 17th century at the southern edge of the city are another crowd puller. This now hosts the Oudaias Museum. The palace built under the reign of Moulay Ismail is an added attraction  Sunsets at the Atlantic Ocean, scenic beauty at the long stretch pristine beaches, the city is in for total heartfelt satiation. The mesmerizing view over the river Sal can not be described by any number of words and Plateforme du Sémaphore the highest point over the rivers is breathtakingly beautiful.

Kasbah owes a major chunk of its glory to its beaches where hordes come and stay for hours transfixed just to see the waves beat against the city walls. The shoreline and the picturesque views it affords are a major draw.
