For the declaration of Independence of Morocco to France, the then Moroccon king Mohammad Al-Khamis Ben Youssef Ben Mohammed Al-Alaoui, or, in short, Mohammad V, choose this site to announce the independence of his nation on 9th of April 1947.
This square junction is a hub of several local and branded stores selling everything you want from clothes to shoes to eatables. The entire site is painted and maintained well in lively colors that are enough to catch visitors' attention. The Socco Mall is the biggest attraction of the Tangier city and is highly active during the evenings. The Grand Socco market place of the city divides the Medina from Ville Nouvelle.
