About Yangon

Yangon is a melting pot of cultures and combinations. The city is a definite checklist item for providing the unique blend of the tranquillity of the Buddhist culture with the colonial British monuments amidst the typical chaos of an Asian city. Take a clockwise tour around the Buddist Pagodas - especially Shwedagon Pagoda, Sule Pagoda, Chauk Htet Kyi Pagoda, Swal Taw Pagoda - you will find the tranquillity that you were missing in your regular life. Besides the peace vouched by the Buddhist pagodas, Saint Mary Cathedral and  Musmeah Yeshua Synagogue stand tall in the colonial British and Jewish architectures respectively. Meanwhile, walk out of the monuments, into the anarchy of the roads and enjoy the hues of an Asian city. Do not forget to savour noodles from the street - especially Mohangi.

  • Pick up a local SIM Card as soon as you arrive at the airport. Or else, rent a phone. Network coverage is very low.

  • Always negotiate with the taxis before hopping in, unless you want a big hole in your pocket.
  • While visiting the Buddhist Pagodas, circle clockwise.
  • If somebody gives you something, receive it extending your right hand with your left hand supporting the elbow.
  • Another caution is against pointing soles of your feet at anybody. It’s offensive.

Night Life

When dusk hits, do not miss the glorious sunset from the U-Bein Bridge. Once the dark hits the roads, there are the night markets that are open until 11:00 p.m. like Mandalay Night Market, Anawrahta Road Night Market, Yangon Night Market, and Chinatown in Yangon. You can savour Burmese food and drinks in all its sumptuous glory around here. The pubs and bars are open until 2:00 a.m. If you're looking for something a little different, the Moustache Brothers' comedy show and puppet shows are where you would find your niche.
