About Cordillera Blanca

Lying in the Ancash region and extending to over 200 kilometres, Cordillera Blanca is a mountain range in Peru. The term ‘Cordillera Blanca’ means ‘White Range’ in Spanish.

The Cordillera Blanca is a part of the greater Andes mountain range with many of its peaks being over 6000 meters high. Encompassing some of South America’s highest mountain ranges, Cordillera Blanca is the world’s highest tropical mountain range.

Tips

•    Due to the high altitude of the place, it is strongly recommended to stay in Huaraz for a day or 2 for acclimatization
•    The best time to hike will be during the months of April to October. Some trails are closed in the summer
•    There are regular night buses from Huaraz. These can be booked online
•    Whether looking to try local cuisine or a fancy meal, the restaurants in Huaraz caters to your every need. Do not forget to try the local ‘Cuy’ (Guinea Pig) here
•    The location of your accommodation doesn’t really matter a Huaraz is a rather small town and everything is within walking distance
•    The prices of most of the tours are inclusive of guide charges and transportation. However, do verify this at the time of booking
•    Do not be misled by tour operators offering low prices. Ask around before making the bookings
•    Dress appropriately for the hiking with layers of clothing for protection against cold and winds. Carry an extra pair of comfortable footwear to change after your hiking
