About Choquequirao

The Choquequirao trek is a real adventure, walking through the steep Apurimac Canyon. It was built on a flattened hilltop. The trek is perfect for those who love walks along with mountains. The diversity of the ecosystem will amaze you with its rock formations, flutes of ice created by glaciers, and cloud forest. The trek starts from the famous Citadel of Choquequirao, towards the Apurimac Canyon and then the Cordillera Vilcabamba full of Incan trails. It finally reaches the citadel of Machu Picchu.

How to reach

Through private taxi or bus one can reach to Cachora from where the journey start and ends.

Tips

  • The Choquequirao trek is quite difficult. There is no easy day where one can stroll
  • To make the trek easier, hire a muleteer so that you do not have to carry the bags
  •  A must-see trip for true trecking lovers
  • Magical places little traveled and of high demand
  • You must hire a good guide to explain everything along the way and have the food and tents ready
  • You can also go on your own but I suggest hiring mules and a guide
  • In the first two days you will find some houses where they sell water at a high price but it is worth buying
  • From choquequirao to the other side on the way to Yanama it is more inositol and you find few people but incredible sites with condors and archaeological remains
