About State Grand Mosque

The State Grand Mosque is a beautiful piece of Arabic and modern architecture and is the biggest mosque in Qatar. It offers a glimpse of the rich architectural history of Qatar. The mosque was constructed in the first half of the 20th century and interestingly has several domes. Altogether it has 93 domes! Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani built the State Grand Mosque in the memory of his father. The mosque is so vast that it can accommodate around 30,000 worshippers at one time. It is a must-see tourist attraction in Doha.

How to reach

Take a taxi from Doha City Center and travel through the Al Corniche St. to your destination.

Take bus number 76 from the CCD shopping mall station and get down at Souq Waqif station. It's walking distance from there.

Tips

  • Don't visit during prayer time.
  • Children below the age of 7 are not permitted.
  • Try to avoid going on Fridays as limited time is available for visiting the mosque due to the prayer sessions.
  • Dress appropriately with your arms and legs covered.
  • Do not carry food with you.
  • Do not carry big luggage with you as it gets inconvenient to move and is not allowed at certain places.
  • Do not take photos where not permitted.
  • Always have an umbrella with you in case the heat becomes intolerable.
  • Carry an ample amount of water to stay hydrated.
