About Devin

Devin is one of the smallest city parts of Bratislava, located almost 12 km from the city center. But it has so much to offer, it can keep you busy for many hours or even days with its amazing views. If you love medieval history, want to get close to nature, or just like to soak in some historic ruins of socialism, you will surely enjoy Devin. The top attraction is the Devin castle, most of the tourists come here to enjoy the panoramic view from atop of the ancient ruins. Located on a high cliff over the Danube and Morava rivers, standing on the frontier between Slovakia and Austria, this is one of the most beautiful spots in Slovakia. Then, there is a protected area called "Sandberg" a few minutes away from where you can find fossils of flora and fauna dating back to centuries. Devinska Kobyla is another top attraction here, being a National Natural Reserve with several hiking trails, it is the highest point of Bratislava. Devinska Kobyla offers one of the most amazing viewpoints; you can see Devin Castle, the beautiful Morava River, the Danube River, together with Austrian Braunsberg and Hainburg mountains. Devin is a must visit for everyone who comes to Bratislava.

Must See

  • Devin Castle: If you decide to see only one thing in Devin, it should definitely be the castle! Location on a high cliff over the Morava and Danube rivers, between Slovakia and Austria, it offers breathtaking panoramic views.
  • Sandberg: The abandoned sandpit 'Sandberg' is one of the most important sites in Slovakia. It is extremely rich in the fossil remains of marine coastal and terrestrial fauna and flora.
  • Devinska Kobyla: It is the highest point of Bratislava. It offers one of the most beautiful viewpoints; you can see Devin Castle, the Morava River, the Danube River in the background with Austrian Braunsberg, Hainburg mountains and typical wind turbines. The view is breathtaking!

How to reach

Bus - First you need to get under the New Bridge (Most SNP) where a bus stop is. This is the easiest way to get to Devin. Take bus 28 to stop "Devin." The trip will last about 20 minutes.
Train – Walk 5 minutes down the road which leads to the train station to reach the bus station named "SAV." Take bus number 21 and get off at around 8th stop, after 20 minutes, at the stop called "Novoveska." Walk around 3 minutes to find a stop called "Uhrovecka." Change for bus number 28 here - don't forget to hail, as it only stops per request here.
Trolleybus – Take trolleybus 210 to "Nove SND," bus 21 to "Novoveska" or bus 70 to "Mala scena." Either one you choose, transfer to bus 28 then. This one leads directly to Devin and it will take you around 30 - 40 minutes to get there.
Car- If you plan to drive to the castle, you should head towards Karlova Ves and turn onto Devinska cesta. It will lead you to the castle.
Boat- There is a special boat in Bratislava that leaves for Devin twice a day from Fajnorovo nabrezie at 10:00 and 14:30, along the Danube River next to the Slovak National Museum. The journey takes around 1 hour 30 minutes and gives you a 2-hour stopover at Devin. A two-way ticket costs around 10 Euro per adult.
Hiking- If the weather is pleasant, hiking to a castle can be a great experience. Take bus no. 83 to Zatevna stop. After getting down, walk about 10 minutes to the old church. When you arrive, follow the yellow marked hiking path. It will take two hours for you to reach the "courtyard" of Devin Castle. On the hike, you will go through Devinska Kobyla down to the Devin village and then from the village to the castle.

You can get a ticket for 60 minutes that costs EUR 1.20; this ticket is good for almost all journeys within Bratislava. You can also travel with a ticket for 15 minutes for EUR 0.70 or a ticket for 30 minutes for EUR 0.90. For pets, bicycles or large luggage, you need to purchase a ticket for .35 cents and this is valid for 180 minutes.
