About Hout Bay

Located only around 20 km from Cape Town, this place is loaded with amazing things, for people of all ages. Starting from the mouthwatering seafood to exciting water sports, there is not one boring moment when you are at Hout Bay. Pack a picnic and find a cozy little spot overlooking the bay for a nice alfresco meal. Visit a cafe and try some wonderful pastries and pancakes. Celebrate with friends at one of the popular bars in town. If you have shopping in mind, Bay Harbour Market is the place to be. There is also the World of Birds, with more than 3,000 species of feathered friends, for you to discover. When the weather conditions are good, head out for a boat trip to Duiker Island. You may be able to see beautiful kelp forests and spot lots of sea animals.

How to reach

It is 19.2 Km from the city center. You can take a bus from the V&A Waterfront Citysightseeing office to Mariners Wharf. It will take you 45 minutes.

You can take a cab directly to Hout Bay. The fare will be between R 330 - R 400.

  • Dress as you may will for a beach environment.
  • Please try the fish dishes available in the restaurants around this Beach. It's finger-licking good.
  • In winter, make sure you check for updates as some places do not allow people through if there are extreme wind and rain.
  • The best way to get around here is by bus as it is well connected via MyCiTi bus links.
  • There are lots of things to keep kids entertained.
  • Try seafood from the many restaurants available.
  • Carry enough cash as ATMs will be hard to find.
  • Take water bottles with you as tap water is unclean.
  • If you are with kids, take a stroller as there is a lot to walk.
