About Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve

This luscious green piece of natural land surrounded by green trees and mountains exists in the heart of the city. The views of the surrounding city are at it's best in the morning with the mist hovering over the landscape. To avoid sunburn morning time is perfect for a walk or run. The numerous hiking trails available for the super fit and the not so fit. Breathe in fresh air and exercise. Come along with your dogs. It's a favourite picnic spot to enjoy with your kids and family. You can also enjoy seeing some horses, wildebeest and zebras as you hike. The bird life is also vibrant, so birdwatchers are encouraged to come. The paths are very clean and tidy, and there are even security guards and sign-boards every. It's also clean, safe and the views make the hike worth it. February is an especially wonderful time to visit the place as there is so much foliage and greenery because of the summer rains. Cross the river and get the chance to see some mongoose, wildebeest and a few springbok prints as well as porcupine spikes on the trail.

How to reach

Get on De Villiers Graaff Motorway/M1 in Johannesburg from Charlton Terrace, Saratoga Ave, Wolmarans St and Smit St. Head west on Gordon Rd toward Bertrams Rd. Use any lane to turn right at the 1st cross street onto Bertrams Rd/Charlton Terrace. Continue onto Saratoga Ave. Follow M1 to Constantia Ave in Johannesburg South. Take Colworth Ave and Ormonde Dr to Frandaph Dr in Mondeor.

  • Be sure to check the route you want to take before you set off as long difficult hikes are for the fit and easy short trails for the not so fit.

  • Wear comfortable shoes.
