About Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque

It is the most beautiful mosque in Muscat. This imposing mosque is a statement piece reflective of modern Islamic architecture that has completely transformed the environment with its remarkable workmanship which is totally amazing. The main prayer hall is breathtakingly beautiful. One gets to see the peaceful, awe-inspiring interiors, the huge chandeliers, and the plush Persian carpet which gives one a feel of the opulence of the place.   • With 600,000 shining bright Swarovski crystals and 24-carat gold plating, it took more than four years to complete.
  • The first section you see when entering the building is a private musalla or female prayer hall. It has the capacity to hold 750 worshipers. The mosque also has a larger prayer hall for the men.
  • The Mosque is embellished in beautiful, colorful mosaic patterns. There is no official number stating how many stones have been used, but it is sure an astounding sight. Take your time to walk the halls and study the handcrafted details of the mosque. It is truly a one-of-a-kind piece of art.

How to reach

Located in Muscat, Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque is easily accessible by the available mode of transportation. It is located in a very good area and is just about 4.7 km from the center of Muscat via route 1. This mosque is a must visit place for all lovers of God.

Tips

  • The mosque is open to Non-Muslims every day except on  Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.
  • Remove your shoes before you enter
  • Men and women must dress conservatively in long trousers and covered shoulders. Women must also cover their hair
  • Omani women will offer dates and coffee. Take this opportunity to ask them about life and culture. They will be more than happy to share their stories and insight
  • Children under ten are not permitted into the prayer halls
  • There is no eating or sleeping in the prayer hall
  • Turn off your mobile phones
