About Drottningholm Palace

Welcome to the magnificent private residence of the Swedish royal family. Located just outside Stockholm city on Lovon Island, this majestic palace was influenced by French palaces. The southern wing is reserved for the residence, the rest of the palace is open to the public, along with the grounds. You can walk through it all, and also see the wooden Chinese Pavillion on the grounds. The English Gardens in the courtyard also contain two small water-bodies, a bridge and a canal and tree groves with walking paths built along them. During the summer, you will also find some performances on the grounds by the royal theatre companies. This is one of three UNESCO recognized palaces in Sweden.

Tips

  • Due to the fragile environment in the Palace, bags and backpacks must be carried in front of the body under full supervision.
  • There are no luggage lockers or storage facilities available at Drottningholm. Whatever you carry has to be kept with you at all times.
  • Photographing/filming is allowed. However, according to the Palace rules, you can't use flash, selfie sticks, tripods or other fixed equipment. The pictures can be for private use only.
  • In consideration to other visitors and the staff, mobile phones must be either switched off or put on silent during the visit.
  • Try to arrive at the docks 15 minutes before your scheduled ferry time. This gives you time to find your boat and get in the queue.
  • Explore the grounds first, so that you can avoid big crowds at the Palace.
  • There is an additional admission fee to the Chinese pavilion. If you want to explore it, make sure you buy the ticket.
  • Wear comfortable shoes, since you will have to walk a lot.
