About Karon Beach

Located on the west coast between Patong to the north and Kata to the south, Karon Beach is the third-longest beach and the most popular holiday destination on Phuket Island. It has excellent snorkeling and diving spots at its southern end and is uncrowded too. Apart from a good choice of dining, shopping, and entertaining nightlife, it also has a beautiful Buddhist temple to offer.

How to reach

One may take a bus from the downtown area up to the beach. Check the timings for the return journey just in case. One may also prefer taxis which is both comfortable and pricey.

Tips

  • Hotel tariffs are not fixed and may vary with time
  • Peak season generally lasts from November through early March
  • There are no buses or trams in Karon but one could take the tuk-tuks (passenger scooters)
  • Expect taxis to charge a flag drop of around 200 Bahts, then 50 Bahts per mile
  • Don’t over-expose your skin to the sun without a good sunscreen as it can be dangerous
