Mir-i Arab Madrassah

A religious establishment, this madrassah ages back to the Sheybanids. Situated in the centre of Bukhara, it is a part of the Po-i Kalyan complex close to the Minaret of Kalyan. With this madrassah in its lap, Po-i Kalyan forms the spiritual centre of the city. Two big blue domes crown the head of the madrassah showcasing Bukhara' traditional mosque architecture. This 16th-century giant facade derived its name from spiritual leader Miri Arab (Shaikh Abdallah Yamani). The constructions works were carried out by the funds raised from the sale of 3000 Iranians to serfdom.The madrassah is considered one of the most curious monuments of Bukhara. From here future Imams and religious leaders receive their education. Traditional national architecture, the shrine of Emir of Bukhara, burial place of Miri Arab are some of the significant features of this place. The decor of Miri Arab has superiority of mosaic stones, colourfully arranged mausoleums, colourful stones, calligraphic writings and patterns and artistic work in inner domes. A larger part of the Miri Madrassah has been restored for historian and art admirers. Here you can gain the pleasure of knowing that history is still being used.

  • The tombs have a white flag and goats' tail as the traditional mark.
  • As s tourists, you cant wander around in the fully functional madrassa. So seek approval for access to certain areas
