About Munich

A whirlwind romance of a city. That's the Bavarian capital, Munich, for you. Munich is a beautiful city in Germany with a sophisticated yet traditional charm. It's world-renowned for its fascination for art, its bubbly beer, world-class museums, porcelain, and BMW beauties. The city has a rich and fascinating cultural heritage that is easily visible in its architecture. There are lots of things to see and do in Munich; sightseeing, shopping, dining, amazing nightlife, beer, and even more beer! Millions of tourists visit the city during the months of September and October for the famous beer festival, Oktoberfest. But this city is not just about beer and pretzels, Munich is fast becoming German’s capital of luxury, with cosmopolitan scenes like no other and for its awe-inspiring architectural beauty. The city’s public transportation system (bus and subway) is excellent and makes it easy to move around the city. Munich tops the list of opinion polls on the best places to live in Germany. Munich also has a quirky side which can be seen in the outrageous Oktoberfest traditions, the Bavarian oompah music to the accompaniment of drinking, the crazy Bavarian dialect or the daredevil surfers on the Eisbach wave. Just suffice to say "Prost" or "Cheers" to the good life.

Do’s:

  • Rent a bike rickshaw to get around if you want to meet interesting locals.
  • Do try local restaurants and small food outlets. Fancy restaurants are known to overcharge tourists.
  • Spend a day in a beer garden drinking fresh draught beer.
  • Eat at least one pretzel per beer to keep your tummy safe.

Don’ts:

  • Take a subway to get around town. You will not be able to see any of the beautiful city center, only dark boring tunnels.
  • Go to the beer festival during weekends. The crowd will be too much to handle.
  • Drink beer while on an empty stomach. The beer brewed for the Oktoberfest is stronger and can give you consequences that usually come with over drinking.

Night Life

Munich has it all. From Classical music, groovy dance theatres, beer gardens, coffee and cake cafes, live jazz music bars. There are a plethora of activities that beckon to party animals. With countless clubs and bars that open their doors to welcome all the enthusiastic night owls after sunset, the nightlife in Munich has it all. The mix of foreigners and locals make for a very cosmopolitan and vibrant crowd. Munich is best known for its numerous breweries and beer halls with a few clubbing scenes as well. If you want to dance the night away, you should explore the 'party banana,’ where many of the city's favorite clubs are located. Another popular nightlife district in Munich is Schwabing. It boasts many traditional Bavarian options and lots of live music. There are also many off-beat and funky joints that host a number of gay and lesbian venues. The beer halls are always welcoming and trendy whereas the clubs are upmarket and fashionable. Partiers should dress appropriately and anticipate some selection from bouncers at top-notch pubs. Munich nightlife has an exhaustive list of venues where you can relax and enjoy some amazing cocktails, music, food, dance, and art. Don't waste a moment and head to where it is all happening, Munich, for the time of your lives.
