Rank in Europe
Kazakhstan is many things. It is the 9th-largest country in the world and is the largest landlocked country. It crosses two continents, Europe and Asia. It was the last of the Soviet nations to declare independence. Within its cities, you will find museums and zoos. You will find some of the most interesting architectural buildings in which to shop, eat, and sleep. The real fun and adventure, however, is in the great outdoors. Take your family on a mountain adventure in the Tian Shan, backpack through the Charyn Canyon, skate in the high altitudes of the Medeu or ski a 3,000-foot slope. Lakes, rivers, and glaciers are waiting to be explored. You can see thousands of years of military history or go on a pilgrimage to an underground mosque. See the disappearing lakes before they’re gone. Hike and fish to your heart’s content. Kazakhstan is a people as diverse as its wilderness, and just as welcoming.
