About Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam

The museum houses the works of masters like Vincent van Gogh, Marlene Dumas, Lucio Fontana, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, and Andy Warhol among others. In 1895, the Stedelijk opened its door to the public and has gone to become the largest Dutch museum of its kind. A very popular tourist destination, the museum boasts of a whopping collection of 90,000 works and items, the oldest of them dating back to 1870. The collection comprises film and video, sculptures, paintings, artists’ books, graphic design, etc. It beautifully captures the essence of abstract expressionism, the Amsterdam School, Bauhaus, pop art, and minimal art among others. The Train lines Intercity stops near the museum.
