About Dolmabahce Palace

Built in the 19th century, Dolmabahce Palace is often hailed as the perfect blend of glamour and serenity. The palace used to be the main centre of administration of the Ottoman Empire and it was here where the last Ottoman sultans lived. After the Turkish Republic was founded in Ankara, all major government functions were transferred to this palace, which symbolized the youthful and new thinking of that era. For designers and architects around the globe, Dolmabahce Palace remains ‘The Exemplar’ of minimalistic aesthetics. The abundant theatricality of the Palace’s interiors is attributed to its French designer. Though, the entire palace is a rare visual treat, in case one has limited time it is highly recommended that the Selâmlık just not be missed -for its colossal chandeliers and the crystal staircase crafted by Baccarat. A classic amalgam of the Neoclassical, Baroque and Rococo architectural forms, Garabet Balyan was the chief planner of this monumental landmark.
